For the past year I’ve had an odd problem with my autocross hobby. How can I keep my car looking good inside and out when I keep loading it up with all of this stuff to go racing?
On event weekends I routinely stuff a full set of tires, tool box, floor jack, cooler, and more, into the trunk and back seat of my car to make the 160 mile round trip to the usual autocross venue. I’m honestly getting kind of sick of banging up the interior panels doing this. Then of course there’s all of the extra work involved in packing it just right to get everything in. It’s not like the back of a Mustang is the most spacious thing around.
So this followed me home after Saturday’s autocross:
The lights and wiring are shot and the wood deck has seen better days, but the frame is good and that’s the important part. Of course my next event is on the 10th, and there’s no way I’ll be able to get this thing completely re-done by then, but I’ll probably be working on it some this week, so we’ll see.

I’ve checked it out, and I’m pretty sure this is the best Mustang trailer:

You’re now gonna explain how the heck that works. A Mustang doing the tow.

yes, that would be the best mustang trailer. If only I could have gotten that for less than $100...

Dragging it home I couldn’t even tell it was there. Mustang is rated to tow 1000 lbs, though that’s only because you can’t get a truly good hitch back there. It’s not like any current Mustang doesn’t have the torque for it. The trailer itself was last used behind a Miata, so I shouldn’t have any trouble with it.

um, no.
I already have a set of LED t
railer lights waiting to go on it, after I pull it apart and re-paint...

Looks like the same trailer I have. Works great for jobs around the house. I need to get a hitch for my GTI before spring comes around.

I’m pretty sure this started it’s life as one of the little Harbor Freight trailers, most of these do.

Makes me nervous that the hitch isn’t latched down.
But that is awesome, and perfect. I’m sure I can’t find it but I took a pic a few years back of a 911 on the highway towing a tiny trailer like that full of tires and a box of, presumably, a jack and various tools. That’s the way to do it.

Nice. Back in the late 90's we had a Reese backpacker trailer that was towed behind the miata for autocrossing. It was the answer for how to get two people, a week’s worth of luggage, a set of race tires and all the other accouterments for nationals or a national tour event in a miata without having to tow the whole car via the family truckster. Even a miata still did fine with the cruise set at 80.
Keep an eye on tires and wheel bearings, and repack them frequently. The little running gear on these type of trailers is spinning really quickly at highway speeds. Synthetic grease and taller wheels and tires are your friends for further than local towing.

Ha! I had just unlatched it to push it into my garage when I stopped to take the photo.

Absolutely the way to go. I have a set of new bearings on order and plan on starting by re-packing what’s on it now, but will likely switch over to the new ones before too long. I’m looking at larger wheels/tires, but haven’t decided if I really need to go that route just yet. For the moment the longest planned trip with it will be from Austin to Dallas and back.

Naturally, someone had to point it out right?
You’re probably way ahead of me but on low hitches like that, I like to take a little piece of stiff wire to take up the slack in the safety chains, if necessary. Or bungee cord, just to keep them off the ground but not make them too short, you know?

Of course. Heck if you look, it is
n’t even chained...
